Time to time I have difficulties to manage my foto session all by myself. So I am curious about how do you get all done so well?

Taking them myself is fun. I am sure it would be even more fun with a partner :hump

For close-up shots, I do them myself hand-held. If I want a full body shot, I use the self-timer which gives me 10secs to pose. I tendf to take a large number of shots and delete all but the best. I'd much rather have a sympathetic companion to take some horny shots, and adjust me to best advantage.

Usually myself, using a tripod. Sometimes I use the self-timer, but more often the remote shutter release which does allow you to take the pic at exactly the right moment.
Sometimes, on the beach, someone walks up while I'm doing the shoot. Then it's either cover-up or persuade him to help. Never had to cover up yet.
For some reason, photographing me in a g-string and then naked with a hard cock always seems to make guys want to undress for me to do the same for them.

Mostly camera timer. Gives me 15 seconds and i normaly have the shot planned before hand. Where I will stand how and etc.

Most of my photos were taken by two photographers I found online in chat rooms or on bulletin boards. They wanted the practive, didn't really push for sex, cleaned up shots after, and gave me the disks. Of course, I have a few taken by myself, friends, tricks, and their partners.

One of my photographers is: www.donwilsonphotography.com

Pic is me chatting with Don.

My pics are all my own work, with the aid of a timer and a tripod.

I admit that I would be rather embarrassed about asking a sex partner to take shots... besides which I would normally have other things on my mind than a photo shoot :)

Getting myself in the frame, getting the pose and the face expression right takes a lot of trial and error, but fortunately with digital if a photo is crap you just take another one, the only thing wasted is a little bit of battery energy.

I like to take my own pics, not always easy as everyone is saying but always fun. Sometimes I use a tripod or timer on cams, there are some great photos on this site

New member here ... but I can't seem to get a snapshot of me that has small enough pixs ... each time I try to upload an avatar or gallery shot I get the message that the file is too big, even though they are within the suggested measurements ... I admit I have never posted a photo before so it could be something very simple that I am not doing correctly ... any clues/tricks from some of you guys?

Hi seaskot,

I guess our webmaster deusex will have some tips for you. Don't worry, getting to know how to manipulate images is a learning curve we have all had to go through, myself included.

There are two "size" parameters involved here. One is the image file size, i.e. the number of bytes. The other is the pixel dimensions of the image ( so I suppose you could be pedantic and say there are 3 parameters, if you count width and height as 2). You might think file size would be simply proportional to width times height, but this is not the case; it also depends on the resolution you specify, as well as the storage format (jpeg, tif, png, bitmap etc.).

Some sites impose a file size limit, others impose a width/height limit, some impose both kinds of limit. How you achieve these limits depends on what image software you have.

For example, my camera gives me JPEG images with a width and height somewhat larger than the screen, and the file size is typically between 300kb and 1Mb (more complex images require more bytes). I would normally keep the originals as master copies, but if I want to upload them to a site I make a copy by scaling the size to say 700 pixels, or maybe less depending on what's allowed on the site. My software then asks me what jpeg resolution I want to save the image at: 75% seems to give perfectly adequate resolution for an image this size, and the file size is much less than one saved at 100% (I do not fully understand what it is 75% of). If I try to upload and the site says the file size is still too big. I might use 50% resolution, or else scale the image down further.

Regarding avatars, you will note that the maximum size is extremely small, much smaller than the size allowed for photos posted in your gallery.

To complicate matters further, many (most?) sites do their own resizing after they receive the image, so you still cannot be really certain how it will look until you see it on the site.
Hoping to see some photos of seaskot in the near future...

Thanks SweatyAussie for the tips!

Seaskot,

On the boards here there are two size factors to consider. Like SweatyAussie said, there's the height and the width in pixels and there's also the file size. Most digital cameras save their images as JPG (or jpeg). JPG is simply a compression method. It's what is called a lossy compression method, and the more a file is compressed to make it smaller, the more quality is lost i.e. the photo becomes blurry. Most cameras although saving out as a JPEG file, use the highest setting which means there's no quality loss. This is the best if you're planning to print the photos, but when it comes to photos for the web you really need to compress the photo - not only for the sake of the viewer, but also for the sake of the poor webmaster who is footing the bill for all his members to download those huge photos (namely me!) This is where it's important to find the balance between compression and quality.

The limits to the board are 800 height and 800 width, and the max file size is 200k. Using an image editing program of your choice, save the file out as a JPG and generally the program will offer you the choice of choosing your compression level. For most programs, a setting of 80% will do. If the program doesn't let you see the resulting file size, then you may have to do a little trial and error until you get it right. A 800x600 file shouldn't be more than 100k - any more than that and you won't see a difference in quality.

The User Galleries, on the other hand, acually resize the images for you if they are over the limits. They will also make two sizes to speed up viewing so it's less important that you resize the images over there. Hopefully with an upgrade the message boards will do the same.

Hope this makes sense. It's hard to write a tutorial and keep in shorter than a novel.

Thank you, SweatyAussie and deusEx for the info ... sorry to cause carpal tunnel! The biggest part of the issue is that I am still an emulsion kinda-guy and not well versed in pixel-land. I will get some more shots together and try again .... hopefully I won’t have to yell UNCLE!
BTW ... this site rocks! Thank you deusEx .

Well if it is the non-risque photos of me in my underwear it is any number of gracious photographers that have thus far enjoyed it...... So far I've had the priviledge of participating in about 6 different shoots (yes guys, I'll get some photos posted) and working on a few more :-)

And photogs interested in shooting? Photos that is... get your heads out of the gutter ;-)

My parnter (of 6 years) usually likes taking pics of me, but due to my new job, we live in seperate cities (240 miles apart). So the last 6 months, I have been trying to do the photos myself. I suck at them. He wants me to make a porno for him for his birthday. I've enlisted a few friends' help. it will be wierd working with new photographers (and per the BFs wishes -- new partners)

I much prefer to be photographed by another guy who gets me in the right mood (and state of arousal) and takes good pics. Sometimes that happens - specially on the beach. Unfortunately, the guys who get me really hot often have no photographic skills and either the results are poor or I spend the whole time telling them what to do. Not good for staying on-mood! So quite often I take them myself using an Olympus camera with wireless remote shutter release. That way I can take lots of pics without having to reset the self-timer every time - if there's someone with me he contributes by being scantily dressed and hard!
