View Full Version : What do you call them?

There are many words that can be used to refer to what guys wear under their pants.
Some are all encompassing: underwear, underpants.
Some refer to a certain style: boxers, briefs.
Some refer to a certain brand: BVD's, Hanes.
Some are slang terms: skivvies, gaunch.
Consider sentences like the following: I bought three pairs of _____ at the store./ I usually sleep in my _____./ I have to do laundry because I don't have any more clean _____.
What word would you use to fill in the blank?

Afraid I'm pretty boring. If i don't refer to them as underwear, it's undergear or undies.

An all-inclusive term which I use and enjoy is "chones" (pronounced CHO-neez), a Spanish language slang term.

I usually use french words... because I'm a frenchie :D
it's the occasion for me to tell you my... how to say? sadness? because I don't speak so well english so very often I don't answer to posts because of my poor practice of english language :)
and it's maybe the reason why I post so many pics: one pic = 10 words at least :-) one pic explain more than few words... :D
seriously, I'd like sometimes to explain you, to take part to discussions, etc. and I can't, even if I understand what is said...

Your pictures are much appreciated . . but remember English isn't the only language in the world! French is still an important language.
Teach us some French words please.

Mon Français est tres mal, mais j'essaye de le pratiquer souvent. Il est à sens unique pour parler mieux.
Don't be embarassed. I find that the people here at USG are very supportive and this is becoming an international forum anyway. If you feel more comfortable writing in French, then do it. Maybe you could mix a little French and English together for a start. I am sure your friends here will all try to find a way to understand your responses. At the very least from my own perspective, it will be a new, fun way to enjoy the forum. ;)

yes of course, both of you are true, mtc and tightie, but if I peak french, I'm afraid I would be always asking myself how to make me understand, which words to choose to be understood... would be maybe more difficult than speaking in english... :-)

oh yes don't worry tightie, I'll continue to post self pics... don't worry ;) and to take part to the conversation, as much as I can. don't worry for this, I like to much to show myself... :-)

I use the general term briefs, unless I specifically want to refer to thongs, bikinis etc.

I usually refer to them as 'UNDIES'. However, if it happens that the 'UNDIES' are a 'STAINED STRAP' then I call them UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMM!! GOOD!!! :D :D :D

I have every style you can imagine so just lump them all under underwear.
I was taking a load of stuff in my old beater nissan truck from Phoenix to Payson 90 miles north in the mountains. I got pulled over and was wearing a a pair of dark purple undergear countour mesh at the time. I had been wearing sweats in the city and with no a\c in the summer in the desert, I had slipped them off when I got out of the city. I told the officer that my registration was in the glove compartment and couldn't get to it unless I got out and opened the other door to get to it. He went and called in my plates while I went around and got it. I had just just found them when he came around-it was the side away from the road. He looked at me and said "You are in your underpants, why are you in your underpants? If you could have seen the shocked look on his face! I explained why and said that they covered more than my speedo and he could see the fact that it covered my tan line if he wanted. He said he believed me but I still shouldn't be driving in my underpants. Someone might see in my truck and complain. I didn't say all the stuff I was moving practically covered me any way and etc. Well he gave me a warning about a tail light being out and made it very clear that driving in underpants was clearly questionable.
The officer was a young and very clean cut. I am sure that I provided him one of the greatest shocks he'd received while he was working on the highway. What a shock-a man in dark purple underpants!!!

Great story! I would say he got an eyeful. He must have been new to his job. But, I digress. I also wore just my white briefs on my way from my house in town to some property outside of town. It was very hot that day, so as I got into the car, I took off my shirt and slipped off my shorts, so that I had on a BB cap and some thongs for shoes and my white briefs. I drove through town to the hiway and north about 15 miles in just my white briefs. I don't think anyone saw me, but I did not care. My only regret is that I did not soak myself first. When I got to the farm, I unloaded my stuff and proceded to jump into the pond that is there. Then got on the riding mower and mowed the grass in my soaked briefs.

I've always referred to my undies as briefs, since it's the kind of underwear I buy most often - don't own a pair of boxers. I always liked the slang, "tightie-whities" because that's the way I like to wear them and view them: snug, tight and white!

I notice that the majority of the guys I chat with in the Gaydar underwear/speedos chat room generally use the word 'pants' for most things. What pants are you wearing today; I got some new pants etc etc
with a poll like this I think it would be good if we were able to choose more than one option!

I call them pants but that's English, occasionally underpants. I think of a choice of pants or boxer shorts.

I have heard them called "grundies" on this side of the pond. At first I thought it was a contraction of grungie undies meaning dirty undies. Haven't heard them called "grundies" in the past 20 or so years.

Another I just thought of that is used over here is "kecks" or "trollies" as in the boddingtons advert (piss take of the CK adverts at the time) "Ere tarquin you've got your trollies on back to front"
For those of you who have never seen the advert, gaze upon the wit of british advertising

I believe I have heard them referred to as "Grundies" once or twice here (Australia). I always assumed it was Cockney style rhyming slang for Reg Grundies (= undies).
Reg Grundy, for those who don't know, was a pioneering Australian media entrepreneur. I have no idea what style of underwear he favours.
I always think of the word "undies" as denoting something rather old fashioned, definitely white and probably rather loose fitting. "Jocks" is the slang commonly used in Australia for underpants of the tighter briefer style. I believe this is a shortening of "Jockettes" which were one of the first such styles sold here under the aegis of the jockey brand. "Jocks" here does not refer to jockstraps, a point that causes some confusion when chatting on sites that have participants from the US.
"Jocks and socks" is the traditional birthday or Christmas gift of last resort.

REG GRUNDY HAS A LOT TO ANSWER FOR
It's his fault that i can't help saying "no worries" if someone is apolgising for something, me slipping to an Australian accent if im talking to an Australian customer (im not taking the piss i just pick up accents very quickly).
If Reg hadn't made me watch too much Neighbours, Home and away and Prisoner Cell Block H in my youth none of this would happen :)

here in holland we refer to them as slipje or slip >but this really is used for describing briefs types of styles worn > boxers and other are usaually refered to as onderbroek > although i notice that the "younger "generation now use the word boxers
i refer to mine usually by the style of the underwear i am wearing( mostly tanga's and bikini style briefs )

XL UNDERPANTS

Love this site and love this question. I'm a life-long, hard-core, male underwear fetishist, a homo underwear sex pig. Nothing else gives me a hard on. I'm incapable of normal sexual arousal. And for me the most sexually arousing word for male underwear is UNDERPANTS. A real man wears UNDERPANTS and a real homo underwear freak talks about UNDERPANTS. Just saying the word UNDERPANTS gives me a hard on, and I love to get other guys to say word UNDERPANTS

I',m a total UNDERPANTS homo sex pig. I'm a homo UNDERPANTS freak. My UNDERPANTS fetish dominates my life. I"m incapable of having normal sex. I can only have sex with UNDERPANTS. I'm so infatuated with men's UNDERPANTS and the word UNDERPANTS I masturbate saying the word UNDERPANTS out loud. I get a superb stonker whenever I say the word UNDERPANTS. I wil never ever be sexually aroused by anything but men's UNDERPANTS

I Kinda know what you mean Underpants XL.
To me they'er "Pants" or "Underpants" and when I hear either term I tend to think of Bikini styles or smaller snug fitting pants, not boxers or even yfronts.
Graham.
