I've started this new thread for two reasons:

1. although jockstraps weren't worn in my school gym classes, weren't really mentioned even and I"m not sports minded either I still have a major fascination with them. I would love to hear stories and discussions regarding your experiences. When was the first time you had to wear one, buy one, saw one. Are they are turn on for you, and why? First time I ever heard of one was when I went into high school (13 years old) and had to buy all the shit one normally wears to phys. ed. classes - ya know: T-shirt, shorts, runners, jock. You asked for it, so here goes.

When I was about 9 years old, my family took a vacation trip to the Black Hills.

It was hell. Our car (like most at the time) didn't have air-conditioning, and the temperature was in the 104-degree range. You know -- the temperature where they check you in to the hospital if it lasts for a few days.

When we arrived in South Dakota, we looked at rocks and trees and trees growing out of rocks and rocks that once had been trees. We looked at 'ghost towns' which is an ad-man's term for towns which people had the sense to abandon long ago.

Again, there was a bright spot. Swimming. In Hot Springs, SD, there is a large swimming pool which is fed by a hot spring. At the time that we were there, it was indoor, with a roof overhead, but that collapsed by our second trip. I also recall that the pool was being filled by a garden hose which, presumably, was somehow connected to the fabled Hot Spring.

Getting back to the actual point of the story, there were of course changing rooms. This being a huge pool, there were huge changing rooms. My mom and sister went to the Women's Changing Room, and my dad and I went to the Men's.

It was there I saw something I'll never forget. Two college-age guys (they seemed very much older and grown-up to a 9-year-old) came in at about the same time as us, and changed in our vicinity. I remember them as having very, very long hair and beards, but now that my own hair goes halfway down my back, I'm often amazed at how short the hair is of people I used to consider long-haired.

In sixth grade, at the age of 11, I finally got my chance. It was of course humiliating, being forced to go with my mom to buy required gym gear, but once I was in the house alone, the embarassment vanished.
