Well since you asked conrad, you probably only expected answers in the affirmative, ......but I'm going to say "no", I am definitely NOT either a g-string wearer, .....and the only "thongs" I'm ever likely to be found in are made of rubber and worn on my feet to the beach.
No offence guys ( to those who might), but thongs and g-strings leave me stone cold,(literally AND figuratively) .....as does my choice of underwear do to some here who have pointed this out.

Perhaps someone can recommend a g string that has a few specific features. I wear a medium waist size but need a larger pouch. I want it to not to be pulled down all day by the weight of my cock. I also would like a cotton pouch on a simple design like they used in the old AMG features. This simple design is really important to me.

Any suggestions, guys? I feel like I am looking for the impossible.

There are some excellent MAXX G-strings available right now (at time of writing) in Target stores (Australia). Although I prefer thongs I bought a few of these.
I classify these as G-strings because the backstrap is quite narrow, but I find them more comfortable that your average G because the strap is soft cotton and not ultrathin so it does not cut into my arse crack. Also the backstrap divides in half just at the top, before both halves join the waistband. I think this is what is called a Y-back. this gives it a slight resemblace to a thong, which has a triangular area of material where the straps meet (see my previous post in this thread).

G-strings with a narrow back (less than 1cm) are more comfortable than thongs although I do wear both. Gregg Homme have good strings. The N2N Netgear string with a really string-like back (2mm) is amazing - the net pouch looks small but does stretch amazingly large!
