Archeologists reconstituted the antique Olympic games. Films were made. I saw some parts of it in Europe. Everything was exactly identical to antique games except athletes were wearing kind of jock-straps (they were totally naked in antiquity), but running was bare foot. Although it was all very serious and extremely scientific, it turned out to be downright erotic by times at least for my taste.

Question: What is your preference? Would the athletes reconstituting the ancient games have worn or not have worn the jock straps they wear on the above pics?

Yes Onan, I watched this whole series some time ago and I too found it very homo-erotic. I would have loved the reconstructions to be really authentic and have the athletes TOTALLY nude, but the small leather pouches were a pretty good substitute....particularly if you have a fetish for that style....and you could see plenty of very hot butt!
Of course in the ancient Olympics, athletes competed totally nude, which was to prevent any recurrence of the legendary scandal of a woman having competed and won!
The only concessions to protection seem to have been those athletes who were NOT circumcised could draw their foreskin forward and tie a small thread around it to prevent retraction and give some protection to the glans. This can clearly be seen on some of the pottery of the time.
I don't know just what those of us who are cut would have done, ...but speaking for myself, I'd have been running around with a MAJOR permanent erection the whole time while being surrounded by all those hot naked men.
Pity the "POLE-VAULT" was NOT an event in the original Games!!! I'm sure I could have won the olive-wreath for that one! :D

Thanks for the link. Very interesting and very hot. I would love to see the program.

Some of it reminded me of the move "Sebastiane" by Derek Jarman. That wasn't athletes, but rather it was soldiers in the middle of no where. They were often naked and the rest of the time close to it. There's one scene where a guy cleans himself with a blade like that guy at this Olymics site. There's also a bit where a guy gets out of bed nude and then puts on a metalic genitile-shaped jockthing--very hot. Very arty movie, all in Latin, but highly homoerotic. You can find the movie here:

GREAT thread! Thanks to Onan and briefman, and all who commented. Regarding competition in the ancient Olympics by cut guys, well, it did happen. . . . I think starting around the time of Alexander (perhaps earlier, for at least a few???), some Hellenized Jews began to compete in the games. . . they of course were cut, and their participation in the games was usually deemed "scandalous" by their families. For further reference, break out your dusty copy of Pindar's Odes, and meditate upon the unsurpassed beauty of the male form. . .

Oh, and Bondsman. . . . you would have found games officials taking a dim view towards any erections by competitors, as this was considered VERY BAD FORM! I know, I know! I'd have been in BIG trouble myself!

Thanks for the links - lovely pictures, but lacking somewhat in authenticity. Nude they were, and in any reconstruction nude they should be again - not some Bowderlised pastiche to fit PC audiences.

Yep JohnH, ...you would be looking at the gold medal winner and olive crown of the "Bad Form" event.
You all know my theory on the highly contagious nature of erections. I reckon I could personally wipe out the whole stadium at Olympia!

Bondsman,

This is an interesting piece of infornation. I didn't know antique athletes tied their foreskin up to protect the glans, although I have seen it on Greek vases.
At present only SM-mistresses seem to practice this. Some SM-mistresses draw the foreskin of uncut men forward and tie a small thread around it to make erection less easy, more painful or even impossible. Some mistresses even use disinfected chirurgical needles and thread to sew the foreskin completely up. When the thread is finally taken away after about an hour, some men get a fully blooming erection and a very deep orgasm. Some men even get addicted to it. The only “harm” that ensues is that they get a callous foreskin in the end. I heart it gives great pleasure. Is this the reason why some religions want all their males cut? I have heart this story a few times here in Europe where there are more uncut men, but I cann’t find anything about it on the net and I don’t want to go through too many str8 sites (str8 sites about CBT are numerous and anyway str8 CBT is much too hard for me). I guess if more men, especially American men, were uncut, you would find plenty of information about it. Any information is welcome.

AND may I say there's nothing worse than "a callous foreskin in the end!"

OMG Onan, you have just confirmed my worst thought about str8 sex!!! Who dreams up these things?
A damn good reason to be rid of the unsightly, smelly thing I think! :D :D ;)

Either that or the lions would have had a good lick!

Hmmm, actually I just realised the lions weren't around till the Romans came along. Still, as they say, never let the truth stand in the way of a good posting.
