Interesting article, thank you for making it available.

I think wearing a jock for many guys is a family thing. The father wears one and when it seems appropriate, Mom buys one for the kid. He gets over the embarassment of his mother having bought it and just wears it. And so it goes on until he has a son of his own. I think it would be hard to break this chain to any major degree.

I started wearing a thong for exercising some time ago and find it to be a heck of a lot more comfortable. The key is to find a style that works for the individual. In this case, it has been easier than finding a jock that has a pouch that works for me. And if someone sees me wearing a thong at the gym and has a problem with it, it is theirs to deal with.

I agree with dayne. I find thongs more comfortable to wear, as well as being sexier - they really bring out the bulge under shorts. Except that thongs are a no-no for cycling - as I said in the Lance Armstrong thread.

I am a little puzzled by dayne's comment about guys having a problem with seeing him in a thong. Does that mean you have had odd reactions from guys? And if so, wouldn't the same thing happen with a jockstrap?

Let me explain my comment about people having a problem seeing me in a thong.

On this board many times I have seen many posts where guys are worrying about how other guys others will react if they are seen in a thong. My reaction is if anyone ever made a disparing remark I would really wonder about the individual who might make the comment. I would really worry about someone who would make a comment about my undergarments. A good for instance is the colored jocks I have. I was in a store that had there colored bike jocks on closeout for 99 cents each. At that price I bought 13 of them. Sure I get looks and have had a few good laughs with others. If I had gotten any negative remarks I don't think I would have to say anything. I think one "what is your problem" look should be enough. I am secure about my sexuality.

I am 26 years old and have never worn a jock strap, or thong. Does having not ever worn a jock make me a wierdo?
I've never even seen a guy wearing one, neither in college nor high school.
No wait, I LIE, I saw one guy, middle aged wearing a jock once in college locker room. That was it. They are even rarer than briefs in my opinion.

yeah, i think it's a little weird..... you're not a weirdo, but it's a little strange that you have never seen a guy (except the one) wearing a jockstrap. I see them all the time at the gym.

Come to think of it, I don't think i've ever seen a guy wearing a thong..... does that make me a weirdo? Maybe we're in the same boat? :-)

No, Andrew, you "ain't." Wear what you like and forget what other say you should do. I never wore a jock until recently when I wore one with jeans. I found that I liked it. Then, on a whim, I wore a jock with dress cotton pants and dress shirt (no tie) to work---WOW! what an experience! So, as Thoreau has said, "Everyone marches to his own drummer." March on!
