This was mentioned in a previous discussion board. Where are all the thongs gone? When shopping for underwear I see that many mainstream stores carry mens thongs and there are plenty gone but to where? I have been a member of many different gyms and only one in the last 10 years have I ever seen a dude in a thong aside from myself. Has anyone else had any thong sightings?

Good point, Thongs and Jockstraps.
I only wear thongs or jocks and have never seen another guy in either. At the gym, pool or just anywhere.
Do other guys keep them for the bedroom and not for everyday wear?

I like thongs, but I would not wear them to a gym or any public places because I'm afraid people may think I'm a freak. I think lots of guys who wear thongs are like me.

Good topic.
Personally, I can't see a lot of hetero guys not wearing thongs because the peer pressure to be "manly" is too strong and thongs are just not seen as a manly thing to wear - it's brief and boxers for them.
Personally, I love thongs (i love most underwear in fact), but I still don't think i'd be comfortable wearing them to a gym where I have to change in front of butch hetero guys. I do enjoy wearing them on days I'm not at the gym or in public view.
I would wear thong swimsuits to a gay or gay positive beach and I hear they are common on beaches anywhere other than North America.
I know it's ridiculous, but we just have to face it that North Americans in general are just too uptight about their bodies and in protecting their masculinity.
Real men don't eat quiche, don't sit down to pee, and don't wear thongs....whatever!

I agree that people are far to uptight about sexuality and something as trivial as a thing piece of clothing can have a social stigma attached to it. I'm a masculine straight male and I like to wear thongs (most days) and while I get a stare or two at the gym, no one has ever commented. Some of my friends who are serious bodybuilders will wear thongs when tanning and during most days. So thongs are out there, somewhere but yes, most people are afraid to wear them publicly.

I now wear thongs almost daily. I go to a conservitive gym but have so far had no comments. What can they do really? Tell me they are looking at my ass? If I wore briefs or boxers I would still be getting naked to take a shower. People worry too much about what other people think. Enjoy the variety of different underwear styles and fabrics.

I live in Cape Town, South Africa and have noticed at gym that more and more guys are wearing thong underwear. While it is certainly not yet mainstream (briefs are by far still more popular) there does seem to be an increase.
This is probably not the right forum but has anybody noticed how more and more men are shaving their bodies - and I mean all over?

As for shaving - I've made a new forum (just scroll to the bottom of the main forum page) and posted a new poll and discussion for shaving so get over there and let us know what you think.

It is very true that many mainstream stores sell out of thongs constantly so somebody besides me is buying them!
I know of a few guys that are fellow thong lovers. ( gay and str8 ) . I do see a few thongs at my local gym also. I think some
guys probably are too scared to wear them to the gym and change first before they go!

Thongs are quite popular in the UK and are easy to find. Str8 as well. What is really difficult to find here are jockstraps. What are the guys wearing?

I wear G-Strings as day to day wear, preferring the string to a thong. I even wear them in the gym. However over the last 10 years I have only seen two other men wearing either a string or thong.
Given the amount of these that are bought my only conclusion is that there are a lot of closet thong wearers.

Given that surveys show most men's underwear is actually purchased by WOMEN, ....this sales figure probably does not reflect what the men actually WANT to wear, so much as what the females think their men SHOULD wear, ....on the basis if it's what they as women would wear, then it must be alright for men too.

This is interesting but why automatically assume that all men who don't wear thongs are embarrassed, or uptight, or unsure about their bodies, or because of peer pressure? There are many styles that the members of this forum don't like. Some don't like briefs, some others would only wear y fronts, others don't like the colour brown, and so on and so forth. Can't we just assume that some people might not like the thong style?

Absolutely! My point was that it seems most men do NOT do their own underwear shopping, ...leaving it to wives or girlfriends to pick out and purchase undies for them.
Bizarre I know to all of us here, ...but sales show that it's mostly women doing the shopping.
Now I'm not real au fait with the intricacies of heterosexuality, but at a wild guess I'd say that the above scenario ends up with the bloke wearing what the WOMAN wants him to, ....and probably NOT what he would pick out himself.
rexrex says he has only seen two other fellers wearing thongs in ten years, .....and wonders why he doesn't see more when so many are sold.
Could it be they are stuffed away in that graveyard of unworn undies at the bottom of the drawer because the blokes either find them uncomfortable or are too embarrassed to be caught in them?
Or as you say, they just don't like the thong style.......who knows?

I wear a mixture of boxer briefs and thongs, but am also going to look into bikini briefs. there are some days when I don't want to wear a thong, and boxer briefs aren't as supportive. I love feeling good in whatever I'm wearing, and I feel that it is important to have a diverse underwear drawer.

At 39, I still look very good in a thong. As for the gym. I wear them proudly, I figure if guys are looking at what I'm wearing then they are the ones who might have a reason to be embarrassed, not me.
What I can't figure out is how the big oversized boxers the teenagers wear could be comfortable.. I love the freedom of movement a thong allows me.

As a hetro who loves wearing thongs and small bikini underwear I must confess that I wear the bikinis when i may have to drop'em in a less than private spot.
However -Heading to Haulover beach later and will definitely make an appearance there in (or out of) the local attire!

other than mainstream underwear like Hanes, FTL, and department store labels finding sexy thongs or any other style underwear is almost impossible even in new orleans.
i found that the best place to shop is online, i.e His Room, Body Aware, etc., The USG site has a long list of websites

Though I typically prefer briefs, I occasionally enjoy a thong or jockstrap. There are several factors why I might not wear a thong in a public area:
-Though I don't like to be completely smooth, I do prefer to have a smooth backside, so I won't wear a thong if I'm not.
-I'm fairly thin and have a proportianal butt, so again, I probably won't wear a thong out unless I have just worked out and pumped up the ol' backside.
Obviously, I'm still working on the insecurity issues as most of my reasons are superficial, but I am a bit of an exhibitionist so the thought of wearing a thong in public is kind of exciting! Ultimately, I choose briefs because I find them more comfy and a bit sexier (as they leave more to the imagination).

i think that thongs are unique. they are sexy for some men, who have firm smooth butts. having the right butt, wearing a thong can really frame it perfectly. initially i didn't like thongs, but after trying one i found myself wearing them more often.
however my favorite style is hi-cut bikini brief. my favorite fabric is shiny stretchy lycra spandex. spandex provides not only great support but it looks and feels sexy. i love the way the hicut style fits across my butt the coverage hides enough to trigger the imagination
