For those of you dudes who like to wear skimpy bikini swimwear, how old were you when u started wearing them? Did u wear in front of friends or alone? Did u wear them in public or in private? I started wearing 1/2" spandex bikinis in public at age 18. My suit got skimpier from there and now I wear string bikinis. Love to hear about how guys got into bikinis!

15 years old. I cut the coupon for Kiniki out of the paper and they sent a white Nylon bikini- "paris" it was called, free with the cataloque. That was 25 years ago w still have them except they are now yellowed and stretched!

Hi, I m 34 now. I started wearing Speedo bikini for swimming since I m 12 as it was compulsory for school PE lesson. And from 1995, I bought my first HOM 1/2" bikini swimwear, then I found that I like it very much. After that, I buy a new HOM 1/2" bikini swimwear almost every year. Usually, I go to beach w/ my 1/2" HOM swimwear, I wear it even w/ my friends. But if I swim in pool, usually I wear 1" speedo swimwear. In Hong Kong most young guys wear shorts to beach or pool, I don't know how they can swim w/ that! :(

I just bought my first Speedo this week and haven't had a chance to wear it yet...it's the 1" solar speedo. I also have the Pistol Pete square cut swimsuit, which I'll wear at the pool or with friends, but don't yet have the guts to wear in public. Although last spring I wore some square cuts on South Beach during spring break. I'm an exhibitionist, so I'm afraid if I wear something skimpy in front of a lot of guys I don't know I might get turned on.

Just cannot understand why America, ....(land of the Brave, Home of the Free etc.etc.), ....has this amazing hang-up about guys wearing speedos, ..and I'm not even talking about the very mini ones!
Just the normal old everyday speedo that wouldn't cause a sideways glance here, seems just a no-go area over there in Yankee land.
I wear one everyday I go to the beach, and it's certainly NOT a gay-orientated beach BTW, and I always see hetero men wearing 'em as well. I walk back to my car wearing the same in a public street and no one blinks an eye.
Mind you, there WAS a huge move here to bloody voluminous boardshorts in the 90's, which I believe was largely women-driven.
You know, they can come onto the beach with their sad sagging tits, rolls of fat, arse & labia hanging out of two seashells and a piece of string and it's "fashion", but let a man show even a hint of a genital bulge and it's "disgusting"!
Thankfully, sanity seems to have prevailed and men are now increasingly wearing what is not only comfortable to swim in, but quick drying and doesn't try to bloody drown you everytime you enter the surf.
You guys over there should certainly ditch those huge boardies, ...(after all how many of you actually ride a surfboard?), ....and get into the speedos. The difference it makes to swimming is amazing, ....and it sure as hell improves the view, not to mention the crappy white thigh tan-lines. Who the hell cares if the conservatives/rappsters/religious right turn up their noses?
What would they have you swim in? Pilgrim Father's outfits?

Bondsman has encapsulated my reactions exactly, though perhaps less succinctly.

When I was going through school, what people now call Speedos were simply referred to as "bathers', that is, something you wear for swimming. There wasn't much variation. You didn't see the "microbikinis (to be honest, the main difference between those and other bikinis is at the sides rather than anywhere else), but neither did you see anything remotely approaching "boardies" unless someone someone had forgotten to bring their bathers and had been allowed to go into the water in their shorts. Even the trunk style bathers were a rarity if I remember. It would never have occurred to me or most boys my age to NOT wear speedos to the beach or the local public pool.

Mind you I am not complaining about all the variety we have now to choose from, but thankfully it appears that the traditional speedos are still standard for school swimming classes and novice lifesavers.

So, answering your question, I first "got into" speedos at the same I first started swimming, which would have been the first time I had an outing to the beach, at the age of about 4 or 5 I suppose.

I suppose that is true of Americans, but I would like to state that the reason I don't wear my speedo in public is for body conscious reasons, not because it's of the norm.

Andrew, ...now you have GOT to be joking!
"Body conscious reasons?"
You're obviously young, with a gorgeous body that many people would give anything to look like.
And you won't wear a speedo in public?
If I was as young as you are, I'd never wear anything else!
Remember, ...sadly, youth and gorgeous looks don't last forever. Make the most of 'em while you have 'em, or spend the rest of your life in regret.

Andrew, listen to The Bondsman - he tells the truth. Then post pics of your wonderful physique in those Speedos.

Exactly, that is why wore them, because I was young and horny and wanted to show off my body and cock.

You might get turned on. Not sure why that would be so dreadful. Where's the problem?
If anyone notices, and says something disparaging about it, you just say "Trust you to notice!" and that puts the focus right back on them.

We on this forum complain about conservative fashions, but aren't we equally to blame if we conform to what we THINK is expected of us rather than expressing ourselves in the way we dress and the way we act?

Like the ad says: Just do it.

I didn't realize my post would cause such a commotion. So, I'd just like to say that I'm going to the beach today and will be wearing my speedo. Aren't you proud? I know I am ;)

That's what I wanted to hear. And maybe that's one reason this board exists, so we can give each other that little bit of encouragement to do things which we might not otherwise have the balls to do.

Good for you. I'm proud of you. I never understood your posts. You have such a hot body...nothing at all to worry about. And even if you didn't, I'd tell you to get out in your speedos. The only way this country will accept them as normal is if a lot of people wear them.

I must have been 12 or 13 and only wore bikinis in private at first, usually to bring myself off.

I got braver as I got older, then got to wearing them with other people.

You are SO right bostonspdo!
Be confident, walk about as though everyone dresses this way!
And ANDREW, you will be the hottest guy on the beach in your speedos, no doubt about it. Of course I'm proud of you. In fact I'll get my towel and join you if I may!
Go for it guys, ....who knows?
Soon you could start a trend away from those hideous boardshorts.
It only takes a few......

Ever since I started swimming (at the age of 5 or 6). Actually, never wore boardshorts. As many stated before, at that time speedos were the only swimwear for kids or men.
The only difference is that today I wear them smaller and smaller (rios, micro-bikinis, thongs, 3-Ds ... or nothing, depending on the beach or pool attendance).

With few exceptions, I've worn speedo style suits since puberty (12 or 13). I've always liked brief swim wear. Even when I had boxer or other style swim wear, they were alway "short shorts" and form fitting. Strangely, altho I have bikini style swim suits, I've always preferred the relatively more conservative competition styles. My favorite suits are 100% nylon, smooth front, with 2.5 to 3 in. sides. I may be an exhibitionist but I don't always want to be one on the beach and this style, unless the suit is see-thru, is acceptable just about everywhere.

I started wearing skimpy swimsuits was when I was 10 or 11 for swimming class at the YMCA. I bought an orange, nylon Janzen swimsuit.

I've worn bikinis (Speedo is a brand name) since I was very young. That was what we all wore in the late 60s/early 70s.

I wore squarecut shorts when I was older (again, it was the style), but I refuse to wear board shorts, or any long shorts. I just think they're ugly.

Until I lose some weight, I'll probably continue to wear squarecut shorts or running shorts in public, but I fully intend to continue wearing my Speedos for tanning, and when I lose that damned 20-25 pounds I'll wear them wherever I please again.

people are frightened of being laughed at in public because they dont like being out of the norm.. so they cover up with big dork shorts.. come on guys show it off, if the girls can then why cant we...
