View Full Version : Desperately Seeking Jockstrap

An odd thing happened today...
I was in a camping goods store buying a new backpack, and while I was doing the business a guy came in and asked the man behind the counter "Do you sell jockstraps?" On getting a negative reply, he then asked if the man knew where he could buy one. Whereupon the man replied, in a very sniffy manner, that he had no idea as he had never tried to buy one.
Since we were across the road from an adult shop that at least sells Bike jockstraps, and possibly others, I suggested he try over there, but I think he thought I was joking.
A little later I wandered into Myers' (a large department store) to check out for any sale bargains, and in the men's underwear section there were jockstrap briefs everywhere I looked. They are not something you have to ask for in a low voice and have someone retrieve from under the counter! I can only conclude that the man from the camping goods store is somewhat conservative and doesn't get out much.

Where exists a man who's never tried to buy a jockstrap. He clearly doesn't know what he's missing.
#10 (who's not tried to buy any other sort of underwear in the last 20 years or so)

They are becoming increasingly difficult to buy in the UK. Not that long ago, all sports shops and departments sold them - usually white ones. Now this is not so. :shocked
Some department stores used to sell 'fashion' jocks in thier men's underwear dept, along with various pouches, thongs, etc, but all that seems to have ended also - now it's just boxers, trunks, or briefs. Even Kiniki does not have any.
Shops such as CloneZone do sell them, but a very restricted range.
The best option here these days seems to be US on-line firms such as International.Jock.

Or our store - Jockstrap Central (http://www.jockstrapcentral.com) - in fact we're the last online North American store to still carry traditional Bike #10s.
Also, Bike #10s have been discontinued. Bike is no longer manufacturing them - so they're going to become very hard to find.
You have to be careful in ordering stuff into the UK as if the order is over 30 pounds (or so) you could be dinged with paying duty, but if your order is under that you should be fine. Our prices are also a lot cheaper than the UK based online stores (like Clone Zone) - at least the last time I checked.
Just a few price comparisons from Clone Zone and JockX (UK Stores) and Jockstrap Central:
Colt Leather Jocks:
Clonezone: £44.95 pounds ($88.5871 USD)
Jockx: £33.71 ($66.43 USD)
Jockstrap Central £25.35 ($49.95 USD)
Bike #10s:
Clonezone: £8.95 ($17.64 USD)
JockX: £10.99 ($21.65 USD)
Jockstrap Central: £4.54 ($8.95 USD)
Plus, USG members can always use the discount code "usgonline" (without the quotes) to get 10% off your entire order.

I've made this comment a few times about thongs, but the same applies to jockstraps: I don't often see guys wearing them, but they must be being worn, otherwise they would not be on sale. And I can assure you they are all over the shops here, you don't have to look hard at all.
You may look hard once you are wearing them, but that's another story. :)

I can't say they are all over the shops here in Toronto, but you can find them in a number of shops like Priape, Stag Shop and Out On The Street - all in our gay village.

As Deus ex says above his site is probably the best bet for a good selection of Jockstraps (the fact that it's dedicated to them might be a big hint :D )
In the UK Jocks have never really taken off outside sports, well not to the extent of other styles and we sell a few but they are more high fashion ones for example
MANstore Hysterie X-Jock
http://www.deadgoodundies.com/apparel/MANStore-hysterie-jockstrap.html
Olaf Benz New Jersey Jock
http://www.deadgoodundies.com/apparel/olaf-benz-new-jersey-jock.html
MANstore down under jock
http://www.deadgoodundies.com/apparel/MANStore-hysterie-jockstrap.html
MANstore fridge jock
http://www.deadgoodundies.com/apparel/MANstore-fridge-jockstrap.html
And on clearance we have the Impetus Jock at £4.99 (about $9)
http://www.deadgoodundies.com/apparel/impetus-sports-jockstrap.html
Again Deus Ex is right about import allowance but there are ways around that work 99.9% of the time.
Best thing to do is (at the risk of getting accussed of import tax evasion :D )
Ask the retailer to leave out the invoice (you can usually download one from the website anyway)
Ask the retailer to leave out any packaging boxes
Ask the retailer to mark the customs value under £30
Ask the retailer to mark the contents as "gift" on the customs form
Most retailers would be happy to oblige

I personally love the fashion jocks too - and especially the Manstore ones. We actually wanted to get the X-jock in at Jockstrap Central, but not only was the cost getting prohibitive from exporting it in, but also the distributor was impossible to work with - some lady down in Miami. Completely uninterested and rude.
Grab one of those X-jocks from Deadgoodundies - it's one of my ultimate favorite designs.

All good suggestions, but they are probably not going to help that poor guy from the other day, who probably doesn't even have Internet access.
I did have pause to wonder what made him try a camping goods store, rather than a straight-out menswear store, a department store or a sporting goods shop?

Both Myer and David Jones in the Capital cities in Oz (NOTin Regional cities though!!) sella good range of jocks.
The "Jockey" brand ones are sold as serious sport jocks and are available in white or black.
Aside from them though, various offerings from Cin2, Calvin Klein and others are available. David Jones even had Ginch Gonch Western jocks at one stage, but the prices were ridiculous ($47 Oz) that I was able to buy 3 on special in Canada & get them air-freighted to Oz for less than the price of one in Melbourne!

I was expecting jockstraps to be pretty common in USA, so i was suprised when i couldnt find any in the big departments stores when i visited New York and Washington DC last month. Any USA members know any stores which do sell them... just incase i return. lol

Liquid224 I'm in Fla, and I don't think you will find much in USA stores here. Sure you can get Bike, Under Armour & CK's here. But you won't find much in the way of slection or style's. I really can't remember the last time I bought any kind of underwear or swimwear from a brick & mortar company. Your best bet on-line and I think you know where too start looking for that.

How about the bigger sporting good stores, here in the northeast it's Dicks sporting goods I'm not much of a jock wearer but I do own 2, I got both at department stores like walmart.
I would like to try a thong, but most of the time I go commando in summer....
Target carries Franklin jocks and WalMart carries their own private brand made by Duke. Macy's currently has Calvin Klein Tech Active jocks in their largest Men's stores (only 1 or 2 of these per metro area--South Coast & Beverly Center in LA, Valley Fair San Jose, Downtown SFO). The major national sports chains (Dick's, Sports Authority, MC Sports, Sport Chalet, Big 5) all carry them, but perhaps only 1 or 2 brands. There are a few underwear specialty stores like Universal that have several branches throughout the country. The web is going to be your best bet for a site with multiple brands and styles. Jockstrap Central and International Jock are probably the two with the broadest ranges. Finally you will find them in one-site stores in gay communities like the Castro, West Hollywood, and Ft Lauderdale.

OK, so this thread just beg's the question........do you wear straps for athletic/support reasons, or because they are sexy as hell and they show you off nicely?
Just wondering. I mean, the guy in the original post, looking for a strap, probably wasnt wanting one to impress his new found guy friend....know what I mean.
And SweatyAussie = you should buy a strap and give to the "I never looked to buy one" guy in that store. And tell him, they are all over the place.

Somehow I was expecting to find jockstraps very common place in the US. However, on my last visit I was disappointed to find jockstraps hard to find in sports stores. I did, however, discover Under Armour boxer jocks. They are fantastic.
I haven't seen may guys wearing jockstraps in Australia. But I do recall one night after bronze medallion (life saving) training at the pool, I was in the locker room with the rest of the guys in the class getting changed and there was another guy who wasn't in the class getting changed. He put on a black Bike and them his jeans and quickly left the locker room. I almost cracked a stiffy on the spot but managed to contain myself. Actually, life savers are a pretty fit lot and have good looking bodies and cocks. :D

Way back on my very first trip to the USA I was amazed to find so many guys wearing jockstraps as their preferred form of underwear. I certainly wore them back in OZ, but really only for sports.
PROPER jocks, (not those fashion things that just pose as real jockstraps), can be still a little hard to find here, except for the gay shops and fetish outlets.
Sadly, professional sportsmen seem to have abandoned them for other forms of underwear, .......much less exciting it must be said!
I certainly see enough of them out on the dance floor though, even here in Oz.
I think a major reason for them not being as popular here as underwear would have to be their seeming fragility, ...and expense.
Don't know about your experiences, but no matter how careful I am with the hand washing and drying out of the sun, the jock seems to deteriorate rather rapidly.
Now I know some guys here just love the well-worn look, (me too ..... at times), but after a bit the elastic seems to go, the waistband expands and goes all wrinkly, and they just look really daggy.
Pity they aren't more robust!
They're certainly expensive enough.

I'm not sure what brand of sport jockstrap you're referring to, but I find the Bike jockstraps do last for me and although I don't personally care for the styling of the new Bike designs, they are even better made. I'm not sure how much the Bike jocks are in Australia, but they're only 8 bucks on our site!!
Like regular underwear, some brands are better than others for durability. I haven't tested a lot of the other true sports jockstraps like Trufit, Proflex, Ace or Flarico, but I see an awful lot of vintage jockstraps that guys are still wearing from years past on sites like AllKink. sure the fabric is worn thin and practically see-through but that's a feature isn't it?

I've never noticed jockstraps in Myer. And I've bought my fair share of briefs in there over the years - it's a great place to manwatch and imagine how they'd look in the underwear they are purchasing. Must go back for a hunt soon.
I was in one of those large direct-factory-outlets that specialises in underwear today and there wasn't a jockstrap in sight. (but lots of fit talent shopping)
Also, I used to work in retail - and sold athletic supports. I'd hate to think how many used pairs I sold. I couldn't resist smuggling pairs out to the bathroom and whacking off in them. Some were stained slightly - oops! never got pulled up on it though. And how I loved telling guys to try them on first!!! (which was against store policy but right in line with my policy)

What part of Oz are you? Major city or regional centre? The ones I saw were in Myers in Perth; someone else said that Myer stores in regional centres like Bendigo don't stock them.

If we get our skates on they should be live and available next week or week after

Myer in Melbourne certainly has Jockstraps - CK and Jockey "Performance" at least.
David Jones also has a pretty good range, including Ginch Gonch at around $50 (much cheaper to import them from the USA yourself, even since the $Oz has gone to hell!)
But please, tell me more about the underwear direct factory outlet - where? ; brands?

With all three above mentioned stores, I am totally aghast at the prices!
You can buy all this stuff so much cheaper elsewhere, even on the net INCLUDING postage!
My favourite Bond's briefs are selling round about $ 7.95 in most stores and yet in David Jones and Myers, they are $13.95 for exactly the same briefs!
Why?
Sometimes in chain stores I can get the exact same thing, same packaging for $5.50!
And it's not even a "prestige" brand.
When you're talking "jockstraps", a clear definition has to be made between what I call "REAL" jockstraps, (i.e. that which was made for sporting activity), and what I call "fashion pretend" jockstraps, which just adopt the design of pouch and straps, but are so softly made that they would have little other function than displaying your arse cheeks.
Go for the real thing I say, .....if your dick flops around in your "jockstrap" you're wearing a g-string with double strings.......

I think Myers and the like charge ridiculous prices too, the only reason I mentioned them was to make the point that jockstraps are readily available in city stores.

I agree - sort of - except that you seem to be implying that G-strings don't give support. That is not the case (from one who knows). There are well made and poorly made G-strings and thongs, just as there are good and bad jockstraps.

Looks like I've wandered around Myer Melb underwear section too distracted. Have never noticed the jockstraps in there.
The direct factory outlet is called BU (Brands United) and is in Richmond where there are many factory outlets of all types. Seem to only stock the basics like CK, Davenport, 2(x)ist, Bonds, Pierre Cardin, etc. Other brands drift in and out as stock comes to hand by the looks of their shelves. Today they seemed overstocked in XS and XL of some US brands and they were going very cheap. But I picked up black CK y-fronts for $15. At the moment it seems to be mainly boxer briefs and those built-up crutch briefs in there. Not enough y-fronts for my liking. But it's always fun browsing in there!
