Just finished our latest photoshoot today - most of which was underwear we have already had in for this season but we didn't get around to shooting all the colours first time around.
Of course as well there was some new stuff like the "Obviously for Men" anatomical underwear from Australia.

We've sold so many of them we thought they deserved a video to show what they are like when moving around..... Enjoy :D and if you like it please rate it

Scale of 1 - 10............4

Moving around? They all stood there for the camera guy?

Yes we used our star trek technology to beam them from out of shot straight to standing in front of the camera.

It's from a photoshoot they have to stand still in front of the camera whilst we take a picture but we do make them walk to the video camera, pose, take the shot and then walk back to the front of the video camera.

We don't pay them enough to start dancing :D

The below may not be what you wanted to hear, but for what it's worth, here's a few opinions from someone who has some experience in the industry:

A/ Always select underwear models who are NOT easily embarrassed.
What did they think they'd be modelling?
You're payin 'em, ...get what you want or re-cast.
B/ You wanted to show "men in motion"?
Getting 'em to actually move might be a start......standing still in front of a movie camera seems a pointless exercise.
C/ For film/tv/catologue work, BLACK undies of any description DO NOT SHOW UP WELL. You see no contour at all, except a bulge when standing in profile. From front on it's just a black space. Don't know if the briefs come in white or even lighter colours, but that would certainly have shown these undies special frontal feature off far better.
D/ When the undies have a particular feature that sets them apart from others, ..(as these obviously do), .....you've got to show that feature off. One guy did a few half-hearted pelvic thrusts and showed a bit of "bounce" in profile at the beginning, but for the rest of the shot, they might well have been conventional bikini briefs. The whole selling point of these briefs is that they let you stick out in front, and bounce around naturally rather than being held in one place as with conventional briefs ...and that's why guys will want to buy them, ...no?
The photoshoot was nice enough I guess in a slightly inhibited way, but I just don't think your camera man brought out the special features that would sell these undies over any others.
Either find less inhibited models, .....or hand out copious cocktails BEFORE the shoot, and turn up the music!!!
I'd love to be able to re-shoot that for you! ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D

LOL the cameraman was me, just using a camera we bought in the moring.
Good points but the acutal video is never meant to be done in a professioanl way i.e it's just me with a camera.

Reason the models get embarrased is that they are just a couple of married straight guys that we know from the local gym (not professionals) who don't mind getting their kit off for us once in a while - we tend to use them because they have a good shape and it doesn't cost us much (just to put things into perspective although we are a profitable company I havne't taken a wage since 2004 as the profit I make goes straight back into the business)

With the standing around because the shots being taken are the main ones for the site (i.e what we use for the thumbnail and main pictures) they have to stand there quite still whilst we are taking the shot because the lighting needs setting up each time.

Think best thing for me to do is to just edit it down to sections where they are moving. Because i've got no experience in video editing i've already ordered a book from amazon on how to use premiere elements properly :D

Thanks for the comments but I think I need to make it clear that the video isn't meant to be in anyway a professional thing, just me adding something a little extra rather than me just standing around at the photoshoots

Adam,

I think guys are missing what this video is. It's not about the video, it's a photo shoot that you just happen to be captured by video. It's great extra content that's not only interesting to guys who like underwear but also informative to people who want to know what happens behind the scenes. It's also great for marketing as you can upload this stuff to YouTube and get some traffic from it.

As for the models - it's a toughie. Being a retailer means the mark up on underwear is slim, therefore you can't hire the Angie Dickison model agency to get the big name faces because you'd waste all your profits trying to pay them all. It becomes even less cost effective when you're dealing with brands that change their products quarterly. Although we do carry certain products that change out, we're much more likely to carry a product we know will be around for a while. Bike and SafeTGard hardly ever change, so we get a lot more out of the photoshoot we do for those products then say the latest N2N that won't be around by September.

When we started out we used a porn star modeling agency and although we were happy we were still paying them quite a bit of money, but since then we've discovered another type of model - the exhibitionist. We've found a lot of them through word of mouth in our gay community. These are guys who just love modeling and getting naked. You don't have to pay them top dollar and their attitude really helps in getting interesting shots - i.e. they just don't stand there and reflect light.

I've also found that putting up a modeling info page on Jockstrap Central also helps find the right models. I now state right on the page what we expect from the model and the shoot - especially that we shoot a lot of see-through stuff. That way there's no time wasted at the shoot by a model who's too shy to change in front of us or wear something more revealing.

Back to the exhibitionist type of model - one of our models had an erection through the whole shoot - that's how much is liked doing it. He wasn't embarrassed by it and told us up front that it would happen. We didn't end up using a lot of those shots, but that's a long story that I can't get into. But you can see some of them in the Go Softwear Suspensory Jockstraps on our site. Worked like a charm for those.

We usually offer a set amount regardless of the time it takes for the shoot, but if we go over what we were expecting we throw in extra money plus the models walk away with some of the product they're modeling. So far it's been working well - we're happy and the model is happy and we end up using them more than once.

So with that said... anyone in Toronto want to model??? Let me know! :)

Well I'm CERTAINLY glad to hear that!
Didn't want to find any stray pubic hairs in my next order! ;) ;) :D
(Although there just might be a market here for such stuff....! )

Sorry if I came over as a bit critical, but as I said, I do have some experience in these shoots and it was just a bit of advice. Feel free to take it with a flake of salt!
(Grains are SO 90's!)
I definitely think however, that you have to go for the feature that makes this product different from the rest. In this case it's the floppy front filled by the models dick, that let's you "hang free". That's what the guys will buy it for, ...not the colours or even the name, .....despite it being from Oz!
THAT'S what we need to see, ......and it also needs to be dick, real dick and not David Beckham tissues!
I worked on a CK shot once where there were more tissues down the front of the models undies than cock! Everyone was trying to model the mound into some sort of shape, but it looked hopeless, and would not fool any underwear lover. I suggested a cock-ring, ...and new undies, .... as the model's were by now getting a bit grubby from all the over-enthusiastic handling from some of the crew! Bloody girls! ...and a few guys too!
Then I had to take one model aside and show him how to put the damn thing on! Ahh, the things I've had to do in my very checkered career! ;)
Like all newcomers to cockrings he instantly got a raging hard-on which the ring would not allow to subside any time soon.
Just what DO you tell a guy to think about to disperse his rampart stiffie?
(And why would you want to, ...which is probably more to the point!!!)

And seriously, if you're gonna be an underwear model, what's with the modesty thing?

And it has to be flakes of Malvern sea salt , regular flakes are sooo 2007 :D

Comments have been taken on board and filed in the old noggin but i've got a few more vids to do from the footage taken from the shoot so I don't want to waste them so I'll still post (got the invoice from the photoshoot yesterday which was £600 (about $1200) them BUT I do have a plan now.

To save on money plus I can do this at my lesiure and not have to rush it because of restrictions on studio time, i've got a self contained area off my warehouse which we are meant to use as a goods in area but never actually use it as I tend to get the stuff brought in to the front office (as it's easier to count off in there) so im going to turn it into a green room (painted all green so I can chroma key in there).

So i just need to clear it all of my wifes office recycling, slap around some paint and get it lit right and I should be good to go. Plus im looking into doing some photography courses at a local college so we can bring the photography inhouse as well.
