Boyf and I very much enjoyed this interesting film caled "The Mudge Boy", ....and the added bonus of some fairly good underwear shots too, ...IF you like traditional white briefs.
This movie could actually be the follow up to what happens to one of the boys out of another fav. of ours, "Stand By Me", .....deeper and darker, but set in similar circumstances. There are more than a few similar scenes.
Filmed in picturesque Vermont, ...but set in unspecified American gothik rural backwater, it's a disturbing drama about the life of an adolescent boy Duncan Mudge, trying to come to terms with the devastating loss of his obviously close mother, the rejection, emotional repression and all too obvious disappointment of his father, and the emerging of his own homosexuality. A big load for a kid to take on!
The only peer group he can find to relate to is a pick-up truck load of white trash, from whom he desperately seeks approval. The leader of the gang, Perry, is a product of a very abusive father, and Perry uses his strength and cruelty to dominate his gang. Perry is strangely attracted to Duncan, but finds him "weird", ....much to do with Duncan's habit of sometimes wearing his dead mother's clothes, and doting on her favourite chicken, which he takes everywhere, even to bed.
Now this chicken is used as a symbolic euphemism for "cock-sucking" as Duncan has been told by his dead mum that chickens can be calmed by placing their heads in your mouth, which Duncan does!
Perry and Duncan become sort of close in a way which opposites can attract, that is when Perry's away from his feral gang mates, and Perry becomes panicked when his attraction to Duncan crosses some self-imposed boundaries, .....while Duncan searches in Perry for the male affection he so desperately craves.
Now it would be impossible to fault this movie on the performances, ...ALL the actors are just great!
Emile Hirsch as the struggling teen, Tom Guiry as the rollercoaster of emotions that is Perry, .....and Richard Jenkins as the emotionally paralysed father.
But be warned, it is a violent film, and contains some graphic scenes, ...including a rape; ...oh and chickens don't fare to well either.
We loved it, .......a "gay themed" movie that goes beyond the trivial. Touched a chord with us, as we both grew up trying to work out being gay in rural areas. Definitely worth seeking out, .....and of course, the white briefs seen between the two boys.
One small point of contention, .....it is established that Perry is very well hung early in the movie, ......and yet a "virgin" manages to take it forcibly, without and lubricant and no more than a few tears, more for the 'dishonour' than any pain. There's no bleeding or medical treatment required either.
Now I don't know about you bloke's "first times", but even with considerate partners, patience AND lubricant it wasn't all that easy for either of us apparently.
Still, this movie is definitely worth seeking out. I'm betting you will enjoy it as much as we did.
P.S. sorry about the quality of the pic, ...my vid-cap card seems to be on the fritz.

I haven't seen that one, but I saw a couple of good offerings at our Pride Film Festival earlier this year.

One, "A Four Letter Word" has got quite a reputation, chiefly for the amount of eye candy. It's enjoyable, has moments of humour and is not totally shallow, but I enjoyed better the other film I saw which was called "Shelter". (It also has a very nice theme song.) The main character is a guy who is just coming to terms with his feelings for another man, but at the same time his family basically are using him as a facility - he is expected to mind his sister's kid while she goes off doing whatever she does - working, spending time with her lover etc. He is engaged in a struggle to stand up for his own rights and the validity of his chosen lifestyle.

I have seen a few "queer" films over the years, and most of them I found forgettable - apart from the novelty that they dealt with gay relationships instead of straight they were pretty lightweight. These two films though are worth seeing.

Am I the only one who found the first sex scene in Brokeback Mountain slightly unrealistic, for that reason? Apart from the fact that the whole thing happened so fast, and Ennis (Heath Ledger), who would have to have been classified as "hetero but curious" at that stage, needed almost no convincing before he got straight into it? I know it wasn't a porno film so they couldn't dwell too much on the sex or the leadup to it, but it was the only part of the film that I thought wasn't handled well.

Yep I too found that "sex" scene a little unrealistic, even though there is a peremptory bit of spit applied if you look fast enough, but all I can say is Jack must have had a VERY loose sphincter! (Or he does now! )
I own a copy of "Shelter", .....and it's quite enjoyable, but I found myself increasingly alienated from the main character as he let himself be used as a doormat by his usless sister again and again.
I hate heteros taking advantage of the goodness of the gay heart, ...and she WAS!
Even at the end he takes total responsibility for her kid while she just abandons him and goes off with her loser boyfriend!
And she thinks it's the brother's duty to do it too!
By that stage I was so angry I'd been turned off completely, .......no new gay relationship deserves to be burdened with the responsibility of a kid that is someone else's responsibility right from the start.
The first love is fraught with enough problems of it's own.
I'm not a violent person, BUT I SO wanted to slap that indolent self-centred cow around it was scary!
Try "TAN LINES", ......a low budget film, ...some of the "acting" (and I use the term loosely), is truly appalling, ......but there IS underwear, ...and there are some deeper issues treated, ...AND some very strange "goings-on" too!

She infuriated me too, but I guess that means the actor did her job well.

If I remember, the main protagonist sorted things out at the end... and from the boy's point of view it was the best outcome possible. He gets to grow up in a normal two-Dad household.

Yeah, he should be so lucky!
Remember, the "fortunate" little tyke's sainted brother was also trying to take on a new full time new enrolment in art school, a new discovery about his sexuality, AND a first time relationship with another man, and on top of all that, suddenly he was a surrogate dad for his useless, selfish, bovine sister's kid!

I'd like to see the movie of what happened six months down the track!
The boy's "relationship" didn't ever stand a chance!
Ten points to the boyfriend, who suddenly changed personality and became all warm & fuzzy about taking on the kid.....remember, the family had no money at all.
To say I found the writing a little unrealistic might be the kindest thing to say.
Still, ...it is only fiction!
