I wish to make a complaint!
I see the set of mini-pics at the top of the screen has been updated - and some very nice tasty shots there are too, except that that bloody USG-ONLINE COMMUNITY heading plastered across it makes it hard to get a decent perve at half of them!
I realise the Community message is important, but couldn't it be accomodated above or below the pics? Or, if that's not possible, have two different versions of the top portion of the page, one with the USG heading on the right instead of the left, or with the order of the pics reversed, just so all the photos get their share of appreciation. They deserve it.
SweatyAussie is foaming at the mouth over this one.:(

Wow, did someone get up on the wrong side of the bed? Or considering you're from down-under and your toilets flush in the opposite direction maybe you got up on the right side of the bed and you're just naturally bitter. ;)
It's quite simple, those photos are a design element and not meant to actually be enjoyed! That's what the albums and soon to return galleries are for. I could simply make that space a solid colour and you wouldn't even get a hint of the photos behind. Or here's a secret hint: right click the image and choose "view background image and you'll see the whole thing sans logo. But I really hope you're coming to the site for more than that strip of monotone thumbs.
(I think you really need that vacation!)

Pointwise response:
(1) Being from DownUnder, I'm about to go to bed rather than having just got up!
(2) If they are not meant to be enjoyed then you are doing something wrong, because I do enjoy them.
(3) View Background Image works a treat - why didn't I think of that? Don't answer that...
(4) I'm coming to the site for LOTS more than those thumbs, they are just the icing on the cake - appropriate metaphor since they are at the very top!
(5) What I need right now is a holiday from planning for my holiday. It will be a relief when I am finally on my way.

P.S. By the way, it's not true that the water goes down the plughole rotating in the opposite direction here. It doesn't go down the plughole at all, it goes UP. We're Down Under, remember? :D

The first time I visited the Southern Hemisphere (the only time) I was very careful to check and see which way the water did run before and after crossing the equator. I can confirm that it did not do as expected ;)

Who the hell started that one? Galileo?
Under extremely controlled laboratory theoretical conditions, maybe, ...but I think it depends far more on the design of the hole the water is flowing down.
Large storm cells rotate as science says they should, but I think you were being a bit ambitious trying to observe the moment you crossed the equator!:bath

Someone had to take me literally! I was upside down for about six weeks and checked regularly (OK, three or four times) to see what happened. (And, for your information, I was probably either asleep or eating the actual moment we crossed :D )
