Personally, I love seeing guys in their jocks with socks, especially dark dress socks. Two nights ago I was personally handed a letter by the manager of the Uni gym where I train. In a nutshell: apparently the shorts I wear to train in are too short.

He said that some of the female members have complained about seeing "body parts", as he coyly put it. (They wouldn't - I am always very careful about this. They MIGHT see a glimpse of underwear, and would probably see a bulge.) I don't own any longer shorts, except for a couple of pairs that are rather unsuitable as they are rather stiff cotton and not really intended for sport, more for occasions when I might want to wear shorts in a more formal setting. I'll probably take to training in bike pants, which should be acceptable and will have the advantage that I won't need to change for riding home if I am on the bike.

It's run by a male, but I wouldn't say it's male dominated. To be honest I think the intolerance of revealing dress for men runs across the gender divide. I certainly don't think the women who go there are "butch dykes", as someone else suggested; the problem is more that they are straight and conservative, though the young ones think they are not conservative simply because they are young.

We have certainly come a long way - and in the wrong direction - from the days when most gyms were only patronised by men, tops were optional, and many of us used to train in Speedos if the weather was hot enough for it.

If your shorts are the source of the complaint, you COULD simply take them off immediately and hand them to the manager, and continue on in whatever you wear underneath! I think you'd find he would very quickly insist you put the shorts back on.
Gyms all over are running tight financially, ...and can't afford to lose paying members, as you obviously are.

There is not a scene this far north,just quite a few of us,the nearest is glasgow,over 100 miles away..train takes 3 hrs.
