Bikini vs thong

I went to the beach yesterday and it was deserted. 70 degrees and windy was enough to scare away most sun worshippers. This beach is known for being primarily an adult beach with a small proportion who wear Speedo style suits. My normal beachwear is a narrow side bikini with the back positioned so that most of my ass is exposed (see attached). Yesterday I wore a g-string style TM and a 1” side Beachndance thong.

For all practical purposes there is no difference, but I was nervous and felt quite different without that minuscule flap of material in the back.

I believe that others may draw a distinction between the 2 styles and cause them to bother me if I wear the thong vs. the bikini. Reasonable people would see that the difference is slight and both exist along a continuum. There is the option of pulling the bikini out from between your cheeks if you wanted to be slightly more modest. Which I have done if there are kids or police

In the end no one seemed to notice and my overall impression that no one notices or cares was confirmed. My history has been a linear one from board shorts to thongs. Perhaps it is age and a lack of self conscious anxiety, but I care less what others may think about me. Yet it’s not as though I don’t care at all, since I get nervous in a thong on a public beach. I usually choose to push the boundaries of acceptable swimwear but I try to avoid crossing a line which will get me in trouble.

I think generally most people don’t particularly care, even with thongs/g-strings. I too worry sometimes about crossing the line in public settings, but I’ve never had a problem. That being said, it’s tough to balance the inner feelings associated with smaller suits with the outer actions of just relaxing at the beach/pool.

Several people on here have contacted me, stating that they would like to be brave like me, or just inquiring what my experience has been wearing thongs in public. Like you the overwhelming reaction is antipathy. For the most part people don’t care. I encourage those who want to be more bold, to do it and see how it feels. For me it is exciting, affirming, and liberating.

Anxiety is not fostered by evidence, but worry. As experience teaches that there are no negative consequences for the behavior we crave, anxiety diminishes. My post today is acknowledging that even though I understand what will likely happen I still get nervous and hesitate. That tiny flap of fabric has allowed me to visit many places and to feel comfortable doing so. Perhaps in the future I can feel similarly in the skimpiest thong.

I totally understand what you’re saying - but g-string style thong as you mention, you either have a g-string (string side, string back) or you hav a thong (string or band side and strip down the back). I know a lot of guys who wear skimpy speedos to the pool or beach and do the pull it up the ass thing to make them more cheeky…that way they can just pull it down to be a bit more modest. I’ve noticed more and more guys wearing skimpier cuts with no negative comments from the peanut gallery. I wear mostly thongs but always bring a subtle coverup with me so I’m not simply strutting around in mixed company (unless its very Latin or European)…but that cover up might look like Joe Snyder running shorts or something small. I say give it a go…you only live once. Dont be in peoples faces but why not give it a whirl and wear what you dare?

I kind of dance around the main point, but you bring up a perspective which I agree with. String, strap, cheeky, brief, they are all variations on a theme. Ties and lapels swell and shrink, it is an non-consequential difference. At the same time there is an internal reaction which is a perception of what others find objectionable. In the absence of this internal watchdog, I would wear thongs. I feel most comfortable and attractive in them. In the real world I prefer these cheeky suits which I believe will skirt harassment, or as you say “be in peoples faces.” This about dwelling in the messy grey which is reality.

Yup totally agree. A good cheeky is a good compromise sometimes when the occasion calls for a bit more discretion!

I like both styles on you. It's clever to pack the bikini, though, if you want to have it both ways i.e. fuller coverage and also the option of later fully exposing your cheeks with some minor adjustments...

I don't see issues with either suit as long as you're lying flat on your stomach. I don't think anyone should be able to see too much detail. However, if you're crouching or lying on your back, the two suits might give passers-by quite different impressions. I mean, the thong does offer us an impressive vision of your balls!

Basically, I don't think people are too bothered by butts. It's the amount of overt bulge/very obvious protuberance in the front that's probably more of an issue for the modesty brigade.

Yeah agree you look great in both…perhaps differentiate by where you are, what the crowd is. I”m all for pushing the limits of some norms but don’t want to flat out piss people off or drive anyone away by my choices either. Maybe wear the thong full time and have the bikini over that and just slip the bikini off from time to time to get some sun on the buns and have a bit more fun?

I know myself that it takes quite some courage to change form speedos to Thongs oder even strings. The main thing is, you should do it not at a public beach, but at a somewhat remote beach, at least at some beach, where other do some nude bathing. Under those circumstances, you have no problems to push the limits

Well thongs on public beaches - most are just fine…i wear some short running shorts over my strings and just head out like any other day and then take those off leaving just a thong and the beautiful sunshine
