Through the whole process of launching this new version of USG and shutting down the old one, it has become obvious that a LOT of guys don't have copies of the photos they post. This is something I guess I don't comprehend as if something is that important to you when would you not save a copy. Nothing lasts forever.

Shit happens: The move over to a new USG was unavoidable due to technology changes. The website is hosted on a server (computer) and we all know that computers crash. The photos are stored on a hard drive - hard drives fail. Mistakes happen and although it's rare, I have over the past 17 years of running USG have deleted accounts by accident. I have cancer and although I have full intentions of surviving it, if it does me in, this website will disappear without notice.

All I'm saying is this: although I'll do my best to keep your photos safe there is no guarantee. Keep copies.
