I have looked at the message you posted and i am horrified at the thought of no photos being transferred. Are you really saying we all have to post all over again, and until we do there will be no photos to see other than new ones. For me personally that will kill this site off, as i really enjoy going back in time to view members older posts. Also i cant see a members list or my own friends list. Please clarify what is going on. P.T.

This is a new software, entirely different from the old software running the old website. There was no logical way to import the old photos into this new Gallery structure. There was no way to upgrade the existing software as the developers took it into a different direction where the focus was no longer about forums and photo but a blogging platform (sort of like wordpress).

There's no "friends list", it's replaced by a follow list. The friends list hasn't been transferred over either. The only thing transferred over are the user accounts and some of the profile information - but some of that should be updated as the new Location field is now searchable if formatted properly so guys in the same area can hook up if they want.

I'm looking at the new USG as a fresh start and the website, a modern take on the old USG. It's mobile friendly with lots of new features and improved old features.

The old USG is still there for guys to grab any photos they don't have copies of. I'll be leaving it there for at least a few months.

You may think that the changes will "kill this site off" and I'm sure there will be a few diehard people who won't embrace the changes but the other side of the coin is that it should attract new people who were turned off by a antiquated website that wasn't mobile friendly and couldn't handle mobile and tablet photo uploads or large files.

Hope you give it a chance, I've worked really hard to make the new USG happen.

I can't keep it going indefinitely for good reasons:

(Sorry for getting technical) The server that most of my websites are use PHP (programming language) and MYSQL (database) on it that have to be constantly updated for security reasons (i.e. preventing hackers and other malicious activity). The version of the software running the old USG is the final version supported by vBulletin (the company who makes the software). They won't be coming out with any new versions that can handle any higher version of PHP. The version of vBulletin that's running the old USG is 3.8. There is a major upgrade 4.x and 5.x but as I mentioned above, vBulletin has taken the software in a direction that is no longer useful. It's more focused on blogging and less on forums and galleries.

So.... as soon as PHP is upgraded on the server to the latest version, the old USG will break as the old software will be using deprecated functions. I can put off upgrading PHP for a little while but the hosting company will start insisting that I do it - again, for security and safety reasons.

So, building the new USG wasn't only a desire but a necessity.

I like the new sites features...still have lots more pics to upload but the tagging is a great addition enables a search of pics for brands, styles, etc. So long as members tag accordingly. Would like to get an idea of how others are approaching the tagging. I am trying to include as a minimum type of gear, brand, features, my screen name.

I always say the more tags the better it is. Definitely brand, style, color then any other features like bulge, boner, mesh, see-through. A generic tag of "underwear" is probably not useful as that would possibly pull up hundreds of photos once the new site really gets going.

I am trying to upload in batches that can be tagged together. I type the tags with commas in the description - control x - and paste them into each picture. Then I only need to add a couple of additional ones for some of the gear..

So if you're uploading a whole bunch of photos of a pair of white Hanes Briefs, just type Hanes,white,briefs, then copy that line and paste it into the tags field then hit enter. All three tags will be entered

Sorry you feel that way, but to say it's complicated "for all" is a bit uninformed. In only a few days of launching the new site there have been 1,183 photos uploaded and over 100 comments made.

Like I've said multiple times, when guys visited the old site for the first time, it was complicated but became familiar with use. This site will be the same - for those guys who want to spend a little time playing with it.

There's no doubt there will be some guys who can't be bothered giving the new site a chance but with every lost member there will be new members loving that fact that THIS site can handle mobile uploads, large files, is more conducive to connecting with others and possibly even hooking up with them, you can now "react" to post, give ratings, embed media from other sites, and the list of improvements goes on.

I shouldn't take comments like yours to heart but I do. I started USG over 17 years ago, It costs me money to keep it going yet it's been 100% free all this time (and will stay this way), it's not inundated with ads, sponsored posts and other gargabe (except for the one banner ad for my own underwear store on the main page).

Telling me "this new site will die" is not only hurtful but insulting, ungrateful for everything I've done and just plain mean. So, by all means, if you're not happy, leave. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

The new site will take a little time to get used to but like everything new there are things you like and things you miss. Am sure we will all adapt and build up new follow lists and new albums. You have undertaken a huge task - and to everyone who has been quick to bemoan the loss of the old features we shouldn't forget this has cost you a fair bit of time and money to upgrade it and we still have access for free! It's up to all of us existing members to make it work and adapt!
