I never tried on my father's baggy boxer shorts or what he called his athletic supporter. I didn't really need to since he bought me jocks when I started grade school sports which he insisted I wear before my classmates started wearing them. When he thought I was too old for the jockey shorts my mother had always bought for me, he took me shopping for boxer shorts just as baggy as his. I remember him telling the clerk a size several inches larger than my pants size, and when I argued he told me I needed them to be roomy and that the elastic would keep them up if I tucked my A-shirt undershirts inside the waist band. He was right that they stayed up but my legs looked like bean poles inside them. Mine were generally print patterned boxers and his were all blue and white so we didn't get them mixed up, but as I got heavier and went off to college I took some of his larger boxers with me figuring he wouldn't miss them.

This is more common among a certain age group (like us) and in certain parts of the country (warm). I often go to the mailbox or to retrieve something from the car in just my briefs I wear lycra bikini briefs very similar to the 1" solar brief. Almost all the homes in my neighborhood have pools so a guy in what look like trunks is not noticed.

I'm guessing your neighbors know you are in your undershorts. Did the bright colored silk shorts pass for swim trunks from a distance? I'm normally in my undershirt and pale blue boxers so there is no mistaking them for swim trunks. I guess they look modest enough although there is a risk of poking through the fly. I've had conversations with a neighbor when taking out the garbage, but would never have gone over for a drink. That neighbor has been over to borrow stuff while I'm in just my shorts leading to long conversations.

I don't think anyone has noticed because the cut of the briefs is almost identical to a Speedo and most of my briefs are navy blue or red. I've been wearing Speedos or equivalents as trunks since HS and wouldn't wear the huge things younger guys wear.
The neighbor's boxers were bright solid colors- yellow, bright blue etc.
