A new website like this comes with a steep learning curve. If you have questions about how to use the many features of this website, then first checkout the FAQ section to see if the answer is there. If it's not, then please feel free to ask me here in the Questions, Help and Support forum.

To be honest, there's still things I'm learning about. What I have found is that there are often multiple ways to access a page or feature or accomplish something you want to do (like comment on photos).

Don't be afraid to play around with the site and if can't figure something out, just ask here in this forum.

So, when in gallery mode, when I click on a photo it comes up in a window. But how do I go to the original pic so I can leave a rating and comment?

Ah, never mind. Found that the arrows on the right that look like a back button actually take me to ratings and comments. Doh. You are correct, it is a steep learning curve. I like it so far!

Okay, only 2 days in, so forgive me if I'm asking too many obvious questions....
Regarding posting the pics - not clear on "personal albums" (which seem to be much like the old site) and the "gallery". If I post to one, it doesn't seem to show up on the other. This is what I was used to, so I am confused. Specifically, do I need to post every pic twice to get them into the general gallery (which I assume everyone sees) and then one time for a personal album?

Or, should I just forgo the tradition of keeping a personal album and post everything to the "gallery"?

Also, is there a way to hot link or cross post a pic? For instance, I had a photo in a personal gallery, and wanted to post it in the "wet" contest forum. But I had to upload it again and add all the tags etc.... It would be easier if I could just hot link the pic already posted.

And, on the issue of feedback - three tags per photo is getting somewhat difficult. I realize this increases the search options, but being the lazy person I am I miss just uploading a batch of pics with no extra work. Lazy, but true.

Just doing my best to give feedback. I see the potential here. I'm just trying to figure out the details.

Thanks!

That's what this forum is for and what I'm here for... to try to answer your questions.

This is what I was used to, so I am confused. Specifically, do I need to post every pic twice to get them into the general gallery (which I assume everyone sees) and then one time for a personal album?

On the main Gallery page, all the photos you see are photos from all the Categories and also photos in member's Personal Albums depending on what they chose for the "Can view media items:" setting. Here's a brief description of each setting and what it means:

  1. Private: only you can view it the album. But because you can view the album, the photo will appear for you in the main Gallery page.
  2. Registered Members: only members who are registered and logged into the website can see them and the photos will show up in the main Gallery page for all registered members.
  3. Everyone: everyone can see your album, including guests to the website and the photos will show up for everyone in the main Gallery page.
  4. Specific Members: a list of members you choose that can view your album and the photos will show up in the main Gallery page for them and them only.
Photos you post to the Style Categories and Photo Challenges are individual, although you can upload more than one at a time. You can't hot link a photo to post in the Categories. You can, however, hot link or embed any photo you post, whether it's a Personal Album or Category to use in a comment or forum post. You just have to click on one of your photos to get to the photo viewer, then click the New Window icon (see diagram with icon highlighted below) then at the bottom right, you'll find various methods to copy and past your photo (or album).

new-window.png

It's really up to you how you want to use the site. I expect some guys will choose to post mostly Category photos and others (especially guys from the old USG) will choose Personal Albums and some will choose to post both.

Like most features and areas of this website, there are multiple ways to do things. You can view all your Personal Albums either from the Gallery page by clicking the Your Albums link from the left hand column. You can also view them from your Profile Page under the Albums tab. You can view all your photos (both from the Categories and from your Personal Albums) by clicking on the Your Media link from the left hand column or you can click on the Gallery tab from your Profile Page.

To see everyone's albums listed by date posted, click the Browse Albums link from the left hand column of the main Gallery page. This will show you everyone's Personal Albums (as long as they haven't made it private).

-----------------------------------------------------------------

The whole point of the website is to connect with other guys into underwear/swimwear/gear. If someone finds a photo they like (and the guy in the photo), they just have to click it, click the member's name and they're on the member's profile where that can check out all their content, postings, write on their profile wall, click the follow button so they don't miss a forum post or photo that member uploads and they can even start a Conversation (Private Message).

As for how you want to use it, i.e. posting all albums or posting into Categories or both is up to you. Your photos will still show up on the main Gallery page and guys will be able to find you and enjoy all your photos.

The reason I personally like the Categories is if I'm not into a particular style, then I can go right to the Style Category that I'm into. This is one of the reasons that I've changed direction from the old USG and added a Women's Underwear category. If someone isn't into it, then can just avoid that Category.

----------------------------------------------------------------

As for the tags, I'm not going to change that. Coming up with three tags is easy. Brand, color, style. If you're posting a bunch of photos of the same garment, then just type in for example Dore, thong, red somewhere, copy it and past it into each photo. If the photos are individual, just type a word and end with a comma and the tag will be entered. If the tag is already used, a drop down will appear with suggestions.

Tags not only allow other to search and find content they're in but it also helps this site come up in Google Searches - which means more members.

My other thought on tags (and this doesn't apply to you) but posting 20 photos that are practically the same, of the same garment where the camera moves only an inch or two just isn't interesting for anyone, not to mention, it fills up with main Gallery page with practically identical photos. At least if guys have to tag their photos, they may be a bit more selective on what they post.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I hope that covers your questions. Sure, it's a long answer but I'm going to use parts of it to improve the FAQ on the Gallery and Personal Album section so it's all good.

Cheers,

Is there a way to block a specific user?
I’m looking into it. There’s an ignore button on every profile page but it’s not a true Block like Facebook has. I’m trying to understand it. At the very least, when you Ignore someone, they can’t send you private messages. They can send it, but you won’t get them and they don’t know you didn’t get them

I did find an Addon for the software to add a Block feature but I need to do a bit of research on what it actually does and how that would affect a forum thread if there was a post or reply from someone you blocked.

There are quite a few heated discussions on the Xenforo message boards about whether there should be a block feature or whether the Ignore feature is enough.

Here’s a question for you... what would you expect the ignore or block feature do?

There's a member from the original site who used to take my pictures and post them on Tumblr etc. I attempted to confront them directly but had to get Tumblr involved too. It really irked me.

I'd want to be invisible to a blocked member. I'm not a person with a "three strikes" policy... just takes one with me!

I know from private messages with another user that I'm not the only one that happened to. He ended up taking down all his pictures. And his pictures were really sexy :(

I'd like to be invisible from someone that I had blocked. I too have had photos taken by others and posted on tumblr etc...not nice.
I am sure most of the guys on here are totally honest and genuine, but for the few, they need to be blocked.

I think I found a solution, will try installing the addon on the weekend and do some testing to see if can do what is needed.

Another feature question...The alert bell (icon) is helpful. Much like the old site. However, when I click on any one of the notices, they are all inactive when I go back. Is there anyway to keep them from marking as viewed, or giving an option for that? Perhaps I am missing it.
Thanks

I was trying to recreate what you're describing but can't. When I click the alert bell icon and click on an item to view it, when I click on the bell icon again, the item is still there. I've tried both on my PC Desktop in Chrome and also on my iPhone. You're clicking on the item from the drop down list after you click the bell icon, correct? If that's so, I don't think that should be happening unless you're clicking the Marked Read link at the bottom of the drop down list.

The only thing similar that took me a bit to figure out is when I went to the What's New pages and things disappeared. But finally noticed some of the tabs have a link at the top of each list that read either "Show Only Unviewed x" or Show Only Unread x" that you have to click to see things your viewed or read.

Out of curiosity, what device/browser are you using?

Question for you John if you don't mind. When I add photos to one of my albums, as I have done today - they do not seem to appear in 'new media' in the Gallery header. Do I need to do something different to get my photos to appear in Gallery? Thanks

It's something that fools a lot of people.

But before I answer your question, the best way to see new photos is to click the Gallery link from the main menu - all the photos there are from both the Gallery Categories AND Personal Albums (as long as they're not set to private). And they're not subjected to the same quirk as the New Media page is.

The New Media link is part of the What's New section. (There's always multiple ways to do things and often certain links appear more than once). As it's a link to view New media, once you've actually viewed a photo/album, it will disappear from this list. There's an easy to miss link at the top of the album list that's reads "Show only Unviewed" with an x - click that and you'll see all the New Media, including ones you've already browsed.

It had me stumped for a bit myself. I knew about the Show only Unviewed link under many of the tabs under the What's New section but didn't expect in the New Media link - but it kind of makes sense as it's just a repeat of the New Media under the What's New section.

--------------------------

Unfortunately, while trying to figure all this out I found the Browse Albums (link on left column of Gallery) page is not displaying all albums, just a few. This one has me really stumped. It could be a bug in the software but I can't find any other Xenforo user reporting it. There is an upgrade available for both Xenforo and the Media Gallery (an addon) so I'll try installing it on the weekend and perhaps it will sort out the Browse Albums issue.

Is it possible to suggest a new photo challenge? If so how about ''how many cockrings can you wear''

I would rather have the challenges about underwear/swimwear but when I create the next poll, I'll certainly include it as a choice and let the members decide the next challenges.

I think I know what StrykerMax is talking about. When you finish viewing one of the alert items and go back to the main page, the number next to the bell icon has disappeared and all the alerts are in grey, whether you have already followed them or not. In other words, it's as though you have read all your new alerts, though in fact you have only read one. They are still there, and you can still see them by clicking on them, but there is nothing to distinguish those you have already viewed from those that you haven't, so you have to remember which ones you have already visited. It's only mildly annoying, but it does seem to be a design fault.
