That’s incredible. Please tell share more details. What did it feel like. Did you bring just in case clothes. How was the vibe….
Well, it’s hard to describe, but here goes….
Melbourne is a fairly conservative city known for its population dressing well and its fashion sense, it prides itself on being the leading fashion city in Australia and being its food and coffee capital. (All bullshit really)
before I moved to Melbourne I came here on business and it was always “proper”, I NEVER dreamt I’d be riding around the CBD naked!
it started off with a 12pm meet, in a cordoned off area and we just stripped off, I wore shoes, but some took it literally and wore nothing.
There where a few rules, like if you broke down, you would be left and you had to get dressed immediately. The irony is that the police insisted we wore helmets! But being naked was ok.
Normally there is a police escort on bikes, but not this year as they were busy with Palestinian protesters.
There were people from interstate that had come across for it, you can tell the dedicated nudists from their tans, at least I didn’t let myself down with my nice all over tan. Couples came, single guys, gay guys, guys with cockrings, PAs, the lot, some HUGE guys, others normal like me, quite a few girls, some big girls, some petite, almost everyone stripped off completely.
Any way we took off at about 1:30 after getting full Sun creamed up, it was a slow ride, not a race, at least 150 maybe 200. We started riding next to Melbourne University, down Lygon street, a famous Italian strip watched by diners with their mouths open, heaps of whistles and honking, we made our way past the main hospitals, then to state parliment for a stop and photos. Next down Collins st, the busiest st in the city with all the top brand name shops, through the city weaving up and down to the Royal Exhibition Building for more photos.
slowly returning 2 hours later to get dress and off to the pub.
Absolutley amazing time, made some new friends, a couple who drove from South Australia, an Italian couple from Sicily, Sydneysiders, a couple of yanks and a Canadian.
what a fantastic time, all very respectful, it was funny watching reactions of people along the way, almost everyone smiled or shouted encouragement, some put their hands over their eyes, we went past a couple of weddings which was a hoot! Oh and a couple of lads walking along stripped off and ran with us for a couple of hundred metres, match to our amusement.
All good fun, now the ice is broken, I’ll definitely do it again.
